2 Holiday Homes, County Clare

These two holiday homes were built in County Clare rural location adjacent to a forest and river they are in a peaceful setting on a sloping site and 0.5 area.

Context

The setting here was spectacular for this simple traditional style holiday home on a sloping elevated site overlooking natural rolling landscaped, stream and young forest in the hearth of the country 15 minutes from Kilrush. This storey and a half house design common in Clare and other western Atlantic coastal town throughout Ireland. It features a large ground floor central living open-plan space, maximizing daylight in the kitchen, living, dining with a study/snug area. With three first  floor bedrooms with en suite off the master bedroom and guest bathroom. A design solution to accommodate and young family or ideal family home escape from urban environs. A full design and tender package was issued to suitably qualified contractors at a contract sum and completed on time within budget.

Challenge

To arrive at a suitably sized property ensuring market returns in this exclusive location presented many challenges. Thankfully the local economy yielded up a superb skilled set of craftsmen to produce a fine product and the interest shown by the community at large evolved into a welcoming and naturally relaxing new lifestyle for the purchasers.

Solution

The two houses on completion were purchased immediately by Dublin families anxious to have an affordable home in Clare.

Lessons

The countryside is a welcome location to consider a second home if approached properly with a sensitive design solution. Not to rush into selecting a bungalow bliss throwaway. The developer in this case had a vested interest in the community with a brother and young family integrating in a new lifestyle away from the Dublin suburbs.
